IL TRENINO VERDE ("THE LITTLE GREEN TRAIN")
"The Little Green Train" is a tourist service provided by Sardinian Railways. It was named by the World Wildlife Federation in the early '80s in the wake of the rediscovery of the train as a tourist attraction.
The Train travels through areas where natural surroundings are still unspoiled: it crosses forests, skirts lakes and coasts, passes by ancient monuments.
Along its route, we find masterpieces of railway architecture, an example of harmony between technology and nature.
You can ride in elegant period coaches and arrive at a late nineteenth-century station in the same timeless atmosphere that astonished the author D.H. Lawrence in 1921: "It's a strange railway. It shoots up hills and down into valleys and races around sudden curves with the greatest nonchalance..."
